    About Us

At Ransome Creations, our mission is to lighten our footprint on the planet and leave the world better than I found it.

When my daughter asked me if I had heard of wax wraps, as I detest single use plastic bags and the waste they create, I was super curious.  I bought a few and tried them and found they range in quality from size/shape/fabric choices to different levels of tackiness.  So I set out to make my own and through a bit of trial and error I found a method that produces good quality wraps that last and I can reuse and reuse over and over again.  They clean up well and have been well tested. =)

I only use 100% cotton fabric that I wash in my homemade laundry detergent made with borax, washing soda and a laundry bar grated so there is no build up or chemicals in the fabric.

I then cut the shape and size needed and I found I can not cut a straight line to save my life.  =)  Yet I enjoy making round ones to cover bowls or rectangular ones that fit a 2lb block of cheese perfectly.  My new one is sewing them into bags prior to coating them in wax and really love the bags.

Using my electric griddle which is now dedicated to wax and at a temp of 200 degrees I melt and apply with a paintbrush the wax mixture to coat the fabric completely and sometimes extra heavily depending on what I am going to use it for (cheese ones work well and seal super well with no waste when thick).  I use a heavier fabric for my cheese ones too.

Now it is about 4 years later and I still use my wraps in all things food storage except raw meat and I love them.  I have not purchased or used a single use bag for anything and my bread stays fresh as well as my cheeses and avacados.  I use them as bowl covers and large ones for cassarole dish covers.  I have buttons in one as well as many other uses around my home.

How to care for your wax wrap

    Using your Wrap

    • Use the warmth of your hands to mold your wrap around dishes or food.
    • Small amounts of pressure will help your wraps seal.
    • Wraps and bags will be rigid and tacky in the beginning.  They will break in and soften with use.
    • Tap into your best tactical engineer wrapping guru and manipulate as needed.
    • Do not use with hot or warm foods.  It will deteriorate the wax.

    Uses

    • Breads.
    • Cheeses, fruits and vegetables.
    • Sandwich Wraps.
    • Bowl and dish covers.
    • Can be used in the freezer up to 2 months.  Warm to room temp before unwrapping.
    • Do not use on raw meat.

    Storage

    • A clean dry wrap can be stored in many ways and pretty much anywhere that isn't exposed to too much heat or moisture.
    • Important to make sure they are completely dry before storing.
    • Roll up and store in a jar.
    • Can be a cute counter display. =)
    • Fold up and store in a drawer.  Keep in mind they will pick up fibers from other fabrics if stored touching other fabrics as well as the wax may rub off on the other fabrics.

    Cleaning

    • Use cold water.  If needed you can use a mild dishsoap. If the dishsoap has a grease cutting agent it will deteriorate your wrap.
    • Ok to gently scrub them if needed.
    • Rinse and air dry completely.
    • Do not use warm or hot water.
    • Do not put in the dishwasher or microwave.

    Follow up

What do you do when your wrap has wrapped it last wrap?

    • Rewaxing is always a good option.
    • They can be composted.  They do biodegrade over time.
    • They make great fire starter by cutting into strips or small pieces and rolled into small balls to use for outdoor fires like a BBQ or campfire.  I store them in a glass jar for use.
